 Hello. Today we will watch a conversation between Adam and Jen, and learn about an unusual way to calm your nerves. It is an English lesson with Netflix Sex Education season 4 ep. 5. So, let's learn. "How come" is today's first idiom.

New words and phrases

Idiom “how come?” is an informal way to ask about the reason for something, why did something happen.

“dyslexic” means having a condition affecting the brain that makes it difficult for someone to read and write.

“no point” means that something is useless or pointless, or has no purpose, and it is a waste of time doing it.

“supportive” means giving positive opinion, help and encouragement.

“a bit of” means a slight but not serious amount or type of something.

“embarrassment” means the feeling of being embarrassed, feeling ashamed or shy.

“headmaster” means a person who is the leader of a private school.

“used to” shows that a particular thing always happened or was true in the past, especially if it no longer happens or is no longer true.

“yell” means a loud shout, usually when you are angry, in pain, or excited.

“bully” means someone who hurts or frightens someone else, often over a period of time, and often forcing them to do something that they do not want to do.

“weird” means very strange and unusual, unexpected, or not natural.

“put down” is a phrasal verb that here means to put an object that you are holding onto the floor or onto another surface.

“belly” means the stomach, or the front part of your body at the waist, between your chest and legs.

“heal” means to make or become well again, especially after a cut or other injury.
