Learn English with the Best Scenes of Game of Thrones - #2 🦁👑🍷 | Tyrion and Cersei, S02E01

In this lesson, you'll learn some advanced English vocabulary and improve your listening skills and pronunciation with the Game of Thrones series.We'll watch the scene where Tyrion appears unexpectedly at the small council meeting. We find out how Cersei reacts to his appointment as Hand of the King. In this context, you'll learn these phrases, phrasal verbs, and words: "War agrees with you", "get up", "ravishing", "forgive", "interruption", "carry on", and many others.

"War agrees with you". This phrase is a sarcastic comment, that is usually used to mean the opposite of its literal meaning. It is often used as a way to ironically say that someone looks good or seems to be enjoying themselves, but the speaker actually means the opposite.
For example, Tyrion might say, "You're always so busy and have so much to do, but you never seem to get tired. War agrees with you". Here, he is a sarcastic speaker who suggests Cersei is just trying to look tough when she is actually weak.

New words and phrases

"get up" is a phrasal verb that means to stand up.

"ravishing" is an adjective that means very beautiful.

"forgive" is used here as a formal expression before asking or saying something that might seem rude.

"interruption" means an occasion when someone or something stops something from happening for a short period.

"carry on" is a phrasal verb that means to continue doing something, or to cause something to continue.

"remarkable" means unusual or special and, therefore, surprising and worth mentioning.

"cell" here means a small room with not much furniture, especially in a prison or a monastery.

"tribe" means a group of people, often of related families, who live together, sharing the same language, culture, and history, especially those who do not live in towns or cities.

"thankful" means happy or grateful because of something.

"council" means a group of people elected or chosen to make decisions or give advice on a particular subject.
