Learn new words and expressions

Hello everyone, today we watch 3 Body Problem, and learn some cool new vocabulary such as:  "annoying", "whine", "hacking", "state-of-the-art", "scrubbed", "phenomenon", and many more. Let's explore!

"annoying brat" is an informal way to describe someone, typically a child, who is being irritating and bothersome. Let's explain each word in it:
"brat": This is a rude term for a child who is bad-behaved and disrespectful.
"annoying" means making you feel slightly angry.
So, "annoying brat" basically means a child who is getting on your nerves by constantly complaining or whining.
The expression "annoying brat" is quite strong and rude. Here is an  alternative way to phrase the sentence that are less harsh, "Is this the one who's been complaining a lot?"

"whine" means to make a high and  unpleasant complaining sound, or to complain continually.

"hacking into" usually means messing with someone's computer or phone to get in without permission. In this scene, Auggie is worried that someone is messing with Jack's brain in a similar way!

"state-of-the-art" means something is the newest and fanciest technology available, it's like having the coolest phone on the market, with all the latest features!

"scrubbed" in this context, it means to delete or erase information, especially from a recording. In this scene, Auggie is talking about someone erasing information, like deleting a video recording, to hide it.

"phenomenon" refers to something unusual or interesting that happens. It's like a magic trick you can't quite explain! In science, a phenomenon can be something we're still trying to understand.

"indistinguishable" means something is so similar to another thing, you can't see a difference between them. In this scene, Saul is talking about virtual realities that are so real, they seem impossible to tell from actual reality.

"neural interface" means a device that is like a special translator, it connects directly to the brain and converts your thoughts into commands for a computer.

"sensory inputs and outputs" refers to the information that is received by the senses (inputs) and the way the body reacts to that information (outputs).

"manipulating" means using sneaky or dishonest ways to control someone or something to get what you want. In this scene, Saul is worried someone might be messing with Jack's mind to make him do things.

That's all for now, see you next lesson.
